B i o g r a p h y

Born in Germany, Holger started playing classical piano at the age of eight and turned to jazz and blues at fourteen. In 1997 he moved to England to study piano, jazz piano and composition at the London College of Music, graduating in 2000 with a first class honours Degree, followed by an MMus in jazz piano at the Leeds College of Music. Since graduating he’s been a sought after pianist, keyboard player, composer and MD. During his career so far he has performed and recorded with artists such as Katrina and the Waves, Jacky Cheung, Chris Montez, Dave Berry, Vanity Fare, Pete King, Jeff Clyne, Wayne Fontana, Brian Poole and the Tremoloes, Ray Lewis and the Drifters, Tina May, John Wheatcroft, Vasilis X, Cameroon Pierre, Alan Barnes, Taka Boom, Tony Hawks, Katie Price, Anita Dobson, The Counterfeit Stones, Warwick Davis, Pete Cunnah (D-Ream), Paul da Vinci, John Surman, and many others. Career highlights include being featured as a pianist/composer and arranger on Jacky Cheungs no 1 album Private Corner (multi-platinum status), performing at the BBC Proms in the park (in front of 45000 spectators) and winning the Westminster prize for improvisation. He also composed the music for Mike McKenzies award-winning film Belonging, and wrote for extensively for TV and advertising. His latest book Balkan Bash, a series of Macedonian/Bulgarian flavoured compositions and textbook on odd-metre playing was published by Chili Notes in 2017. Holger is currently a Trinity Rock and Pop examiner and has taught at a number of Universities and Music Colleges including the London College of Music and the Institute for Contemporary Music Performance. His current album, Music for Piano and Strings was released in March 2020 by the Willowhayne label/Naxos .
